Command Sergeant Major Harley Upham

WO1 Harley Upham enlisted into the British Army in 1997 as a Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank driver with the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment. During his service WO1 Upham has deployed on eight operational deployments. He was mentioned in dispatches for his actions in the face of the enemy on his third tour of Afghanistan.

A reconnaissance soldier at heart, much of WO1 Upham’s time has been spent dismounted, although he also prides himself on being a Mounted Close Combat expert on CR2, CVRT and most of the UOR fleet. He has also served as a Forward Air Controller and SuPFAC on operations.

More recently, WO1 Upham served as the Regimental Sergeant Major of the Royal Tank Regiment, Brigade Sergeant Major of 1 AI Brigade, Command Sergeant Major of 3rd (United Kingdom) Division, and as a student of the United States Sergeant Majors Academy (USASMA) class 73. In July 2023 he was appointed Command Sergeant Major of the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps (ARRC) where he supports COM ARRC and represents the interests of all soldiers within a deployable NATO HQ.

The Command Sergeant Major is married and has three children. He also holds a master’s degree in leadership and workforce development. His spare time is consumed by riding motorcycles, training and competing in triathlons and skiing.
