Chief of Staff
Major General Will Bramble was commissioned into the Royal Regiment of Artillery in 1987. As a Troop Commander he saw operational service in Belize, Northern Ireland and in 1991 during the liberation of Kuwait. Further service as a junior officer included operations with the UN. He served with the 5th Airborne Brigade as a Forward Observation Officer in 7th Parachute Regiment Royal Horse Artillery before becoming Adjutant of 19th Regiment Royal Artillery The Highland Gunners. He attended the Joint Staff College from 1997-1999, after which he was Brigade Chief of Staff with 4th Armoured Brigade in Kosovo and Germany. After a tour as Battery Commander with 4th Regiment Royal Artillery supporting the Royal Dragoon Guards, he became Military Assistant 1 to the Chief of the General Staff, General Sir Mike Jackson, 2003-2005.
He commanded the Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Task Force in Kosovo in 2005 and from 2006-2008 he commanded 19th Regiment Royal Artillery The Highland Gunners supporting 12th Mechanised Brigade on Operation HERRICK 6 in Afghanistan in 2007. In 2008 he became the Assistant Director Personnel Operations in HQ Land Forces. He attended the Higher Command and Staff Course in early 2010 and was Commander Royal Artillery 3rd (United Kingdom) Division 2010-2012. As ACOS J3 he directed the current operations division at the Permanent Joint Headquarters 2012-2014, overseeing the UK's current military operations including Afghanistan. He attended the Royal College of Defence Studies 2014-2015. From 2015-2016 he was Deputy Security Advisor to the Afghan Ministry of Interior and Police as part of NATO's RESOLUTE SUPPORT Mission in Kabul. He became COS ARRC in December 2016.
He is married and has three children. He is a passionate sportsman, who has just about stopped playing rugby and also enjoys hockey, skiing, sailing, shooting and fishing. He also loves painting. He is Chairman of the Army Rugby Union. He spends as much time as he can in the Outer Hebrides in Scotland.
