(GLOUCESTERSHIRE) — The holiday season is a time for giving. Therefore soldiers from the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps decided to hold a food drive at the headquarters for Trussel Trust Food Bank of Gloucestershire.
"It was decided that a food bank donation drive, rather than a traditional gift donation, would have a broader and more direct impact upon the lives of the less fortunate members of the community,” said Canadian Lt. Col. David Jones, an operations officer at HQ ARRC.
Collection boxes were placed in the Officers’ Mess and the ARRC headquarters building. Members of the ARRC gave non-perishable food items and monetary donations.
Approximately 218 kg of non-perishable items, and £100 were donated to the Trussel Trust Food Bank, a national charitable organization, selected for the first time as the recipient of this year’s Christmas charitable campaign.
"Thank you very much, to all member of HQ ARRC,” said Ms. Anneliese Sterry, Manager, Gloucester Trussel Trust Food Bank. "This food and cash contribution is greatly appreciated by the staff, volunteers, and clients of the food bank.”
