5K Run Kicks Off First ARRC ‘Imjin Cup’ Competition

Headquarters Allied Rapid Reaction Corps kicked off the first-ever Imjin Cup competition with a 5K run around their home at Imjin Barracks, pitting the branches of the headquarters, the ARRC Support Battalion and 1 (UK) Signals Brigade against each other in what will be a year-long competition.

Last week Headquarters Allied Rapid Reaction Corps welcomed a new Command Sergeant Major, British WO1 (Comd. SM) Allan Ridler, who will serve as the senior enlisted advisor to the commander. In addition to that role, he wants to be a voice for the ARRC’s Non-Commissioned Officers, ensure their readiness and maximize their talent when and where he can.

The Operational Liaison and Reconnaissance Team (OLRT) training cycle began this week, refreshing current members of the team and introducing its newest members to the scope, depth and importance of the job ahead. To ensure its realism, HQ ARRC coordinated with a local airport, Gloucestershire Airport, Staverton, to have their team meet with their operations director to get some hands-on experience as an OLRT.

The ARRC's NCOs of NRF Conference featured enlisted guests from across the UK and NATO force structure, including the British Army Sergeant Major, Glenn Haughton, the British Army Inspectorate Sergeant Major, the sergeant major of 3 UK Division and the command senior enlisted leaders from Joint Forces Command Naples, the German-Netherlands Corps, Multinational Corps-Northeast and Multinational Corps-Southeast.

Lt. Gen. Tim Radford, commander Allied Rapid Reaction Corps officially takes the flag for the 2017 NATO Response Force Land Component Command from NATO Rapid Deployable Corps-Spain, during a ceremony here, Jan. 11. Also changing hands was the helm of the NATO Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (Land) from Spain's 7th Spanish Infantry Brigade to the UK's 20th Armoured Brigade.

With 2017 fast approaching, preparations for NATO's rapid reaction force are coming to an end. The alliance's plan is to set up four battle groups with a total of 4,000 troops, backed up by a 40,000-strong rapid-reaction force. Forces TV has been to the Sennelager Ranges in Germany, where Britain's 20th Armoured Infantry Brigade has been preparing itself.

20th AI Brigade is the vanguard Armoured Infantry Brigade of the UK’s 3rd Division.  The ‘Iron Fist’ Brigade is in the field on Exercise NOBLE LEDGER being evaluated on the multinational Brigade’s readiness to lead full spectrum operations.  Ex NOBLE LEDGER is focussed on the Task Force Headquarters and its ability to command and control a complex Alliance operation. The headquarters comprises more than 250 personnel drawn from 14 NATO member nations. The entire exercise comprises about 350 NATO personnel including exercise control.
