INNSWORTH, UK - In November, Headquarters Allied Rapid Reaction Corps completed their certification as the NATO Response Force Land Component Command for 2017 during NATO Exercise TRIDENT JUNCTURE 16. This month they assist training UK’s 20th Armoured Infantry Brigade, testing their role as the 2017 Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (Land) during exercise NOBLE LEDGER 16, Nov. 25 – Dec. 16, at Sennelager Training Area, Germany.
20th AI Brigade is the vanguard Armoured Infantry Brigade of the UK’s 3rd Division. The ‘Iron Fist’ Brigade is in the field on Exercise NOBLE LEDGER being evaluated on the multinational Brigade’s readiness to lead full spectrum operations. Ex NOBLE LEDGER is focussed on the Task Force Headquarters and its ability to command and control a complex Alliance operation. The headquarters comprises more than 250 personnel drawn from 14 NATO member nations. The entire exercise comprises about 350 NATO personnel including exercise control.
"Ex NOBLE LEDGER is a fantastic opportunity for the soldiers of the Task Force to prove our collective readiness,” said Brigadier Mike Elviss, commander VJTF(L) 17.
"A purposeful multinational brigade, the exercise shows that the whole is greater than the sum of our parts. The VJTF (L) demonstrates that as an Alliance we are stronger together. I have absolute faith in our ability to plan and execute any type of operation, against any type of adversary,” said Elviss.
While the ultimate goal is certification as the VJTF (L), HQ ARRC will be acting in their role as the higher command, giving the Task Force a chance to integrate, confirm their interoperability and validate their readiness and capabilities ahead of the NRF mission next year. A hundred servicemen and women from the ARRC are conducting duties associated with exercise control and evaluation.
"Furthermore, we have been superbly supported by HQ ARRC, who will also be held at readiness in 2017 as the NATO Reaction Force Land Component Command. They have delivered world-class training. We look forward to standing ready from 1 January,” said Elviss.
Ex NOBLE LEDGER 16 is the culminating certification this year for the UK’s 20th Al Bde, a final stepping stone after Exercise VENERABLE GAUNTLET and more than a year of training that prepared them to assume their role in NATO’s VJTF.
